Auntie Anne’s Pretzels Continues Nontraditional Growth Momentum
November 21, 2013
Partnership with HMSHost Furthers Brand Presence in Travel, Rest Venues
Lancaster, PA – With more than 1,000 domestic stores and locations in a plethora of venues such as shopping malls, outlet centers, airports, amusement parks and more, fans of Auntie Anne's Pretzels® rarely have to travel far to enjoy a perfect on-the-go snack. To bring hand-rolled soft pretzels and other freshly-baked treats to even more brand fanatics, Auntie Anne’s is continuing its successful partnership with highway and airport food-service company, HMSHost.
Recognizing an opportunity to further expand the brand’s appeal in locations outside the shopping mall, Auntie Anne’s first partnered with HMSHost in 2010 to open supplementary units in travel/rest plazas and airports. Since the initial agreement, HMSHost has opened a total of 26 Auntie Anne’s locations and has strategic growth plans in the pipeline for 2014. In 2013, HMSHost opened units at the King of Prussia Service Plaza and the South Midway Service Plaza, both of which reside in Pennsylvania. By end of year, HMSHost will open another unit in Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
“Since day one, our partners at HMSHost have brought a wealth and expertise to our nontraditional growth ambitions, said Brian Boycan, Vice President of Non-Traditional Development for Auntie Anne’s. “Attracting a group of their business acumen and esteemed reputation is a true testament to our brand. We look forward to further growth and development in 2014.”
Nontraditional development has long been a growth vehicle for the Lancaster-based soft pretzel icon. Auntie Anne’s expects to open 65 nontraditional units in 2014 after opening more than 50 in 2013.
Auntie Anne’s, which turned 25 in February 2013, earned its 24th year of positive overall sales growth in 2012 and opened its 1,000th domestic location in Elizabethtown, Ky. With Auntie Anne’s, there is no “one size fits all” store model. Instead, the company has the ability to tailor stores to better appeal to the venue and its traffic count. Auntie Anne’s typical store layouts include in-line stores, baking kiosks and satellite retail units, and they offer flexible store design prototypes to accommodate the versatile requirements of today’s traditional and nontraditional venues.
