Iconic Soft Pretzel Brand Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Amusement Park Presence

LANCASTER, Pa. (May 28, 2014) – Auntie Anne's® Pretzels, the more than 1,540-unit franchise made famous by its fresh, hand-rolled snacks, is continuing to expand its portfolio of non-traditional locations in one of the happiest places on earth for children and their families: amusement parks. In 2013, Auntie Anne’s opened its first four amusement park pretzel shops and the success of these locations has prompted Auntie Anne’s to continue its amusement park momentum through 2014.

Building on its partnership with Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, Auntie Anne’s will be opening in five new Cedar Fair parks this year, along with second locations at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio; Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio; and Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri."

Everyone knows Auntie Anne’s is a simple, delicious, on-the-go treat, which makes it the perfect fit for any amusement park,” explained Brian Boycan, Vice President of Non-Traditional Development at Auntie Anne’s. “We have seen tremendous success from our amusement park locations in the past year, so we hope to continue this growth nationwide. Our goal is to continue building the Auntie Anne’s brand presence outside of our well-established traditional locations and become a must-have indulgence in amusement parks.”

The iconic pretzel brand, which has opened in more than 30 non-traditional locations this year, can now be found in non-traditional venues including entertainment centers, amusement parks, casinos, stadiums, military bases, colleges and universities, large retailers, and transportation sites such as airports, train stations, and travel plazas. Anticipating continued growth, Auntie Anne’s projects to open more than 100 additional non-traditional locations by the end of 2014.

With Auntie Anne’s, there is no “one size fits all” store model. Instead, the company has the ability to tailor stores to better appeal to the venue and its traffic count. Auntie Anne’s typical store layouts include in-line stores, baking kiosks and satellite retail units, and they offer flexible store design prototypes to accommodate the versatile requirements of today’s traditional and nontraditional venues.

Cedar Fair is a publicly traded partnership headquartered in Sandusky, Ohio, and one of the largest regional amusement-resort operators in the world.  The Company owns and operates 11 amusement parks, three outdoor water parks, one indoor water park and five hotels.  Its parks are located in Ohio, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan, and Toronto, Ontario.  Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in California under a management contract.  Cedar Fair’s flagship park, Cedar Point, has been consistently voted the “Best Amusement Park in the World” in a prestigious annual poll conducted by Amusement Today newspaper.

An award-winning franchise system that is owned by FOCUS Brands Inc., Auntie Anne's® Pretzels received the 2014 Technomic’s Chain Restaurant Consumers’ Choice Award for craveability, ranked number one in the category of hand-rolled soft pretzels by Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500, and was granted the World-Class Franchise® honor (the most prestigious award in franchising) for the past seven years.
