Prepare the dough for your pretzel dogs using the Auntie Anne’s DIY Kit Mix Instructions.
When the dough has risen, spray a small area of the counter with non-stick spray and place dough onto sprayed area. Do not spray or flour the area where you will roll pretzel dogs.
Cut strips of dough that measure 1" x 6".
Pull dough strip to stretch it out. Start in the middle of strip. Move your hands outward while pulling, stretching, and rolling the dough strip. Roll each piece into a rope 1" x 12". Do not over-roll the dough strip.
Place one hot dog at one end of the dough strip leaving hot dog end exposed. Roll the hot dog on the counter while fully wrapping the dough around the hot dog. While rolling, lightly apply pressure to slightly flatten dough strip. Make sure both ends of the hot dog are exposed (about ½”) and the dough strip ends are tightly secured to the hot dog (this will prevent the dough strip from unraveling during baking).
Roll all hot dogs before proceeding to step 7 (dough should yield 8 Pretzel Dogs).
In a medium bowl, dissolve baking soda in 4 cups hot water. Stir until nearly dissolved.
Lightly coat baking tray with non-stick spray.
Pick up each pretzel dog and quickly dip into the baking soda solution. Place pretzel dog on towel to drain off excess solution and arrange on coated tray in 2 rows of 4.
Sprinkle with salt if desired.
Bake on the center rack in preheated oven for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, rotate the tray 180° and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown. (Note: Hot dogs must always be heated until they are steamy hot throughout).
Melt 2 TBS. (1/8 cup) of fresh butter. After baking pretzel dogs and before they cool, brush butter over top of pretzel dogs.
